Influenza 2008-2009

October 27, 2008

10/27/2008  Well, it is influenza time again.  For a general discussion and the usual recommendations, please see my article

For the weekly report from the Centers for Disease Control, click here.  Their report is usually about a week behind, owing to the logistics of data collection.

At the moment, most states are not reporting any influenza activity, but interestingly enough, Connecticut is one of the few that is reporting “sporadic” cases.  Accordingly, prophylaxis with Influenzinum may be started at this time.

10/2/2008 — I have become aware of some links between Vitamin D and asthma.  I subscribe to a newsletter from The Vitamin D Council which points out a few studies that demonstrate the connection, and a letter from a mother whose child’s asthma dramatically improved with the ingestion of 2000 Units of Vitamin D-3 (cholecalcifierol) daily.

One of the two articles cited can be found here.

For those of you interested in many other aspects of the vitamin D story, you can subscribe to a newsletter on the Council’s website.
